My daughter started to learn to play the violin in Japan when she was 5 years old. After about a year of playing, we moved to the US. I knew I had to find a new teacher for her. Unable to speak much English, finding a great teacher was crucial. We found a teacher through Allegro Music School. She was exactly what we needed. She was kind and patient, finding creative ways to push past the language barrier. Also, the school warmly welcomed my daughter and Mrs. Shimovich watched her growth together.

The recital experiences helped her to maintain her motivation and create new goals. And those let her grow.

Today, seven years later, she is part of the BYSO and has been the concertmaster of her school orchestra multiple times. Allegro Music School is an inclusive, supportive community and we are blessed to be a part of it. We will be forever grateful for Allegro Music School.

I have been with Allegro Music School since the second grade, making this year my eleventh and final. Since starting, music has always been a part of my life, and in fourth grade I was inspired to take up the alto saxophone, an instrument that I have not put down since. Just one year ago, our elder son began theory study at Allegro Music School with Gil Harel. By September of last year, Kyril, with our approval, decided to have Gil also instruct him in classical piano performance for his instrumental honors class. The Allegro school has transformed the way children view music. Allegro offers so many opportunities for children to perform where personal best is the goal, not perfect performance. Since she began attending Allegro Music School, our daughter Sophie (Harrigle) has blossomed in her confidence, knowledge and focus. Her daily violin practices and weekly tutorials with Blanca and Doina have provided her entrance to the enchanting dimension of artistic and self expression. It is clear that she responds naturally to their genuine affection for her and other students. Sophie looks up to them and appreciates their talents and love of this discipline; as parents, we are most grateful to them for this.

Music has been a part of Sophie’s life since she was small, being lulled to sleep each night with classical selections from a CD featuring Brahms, Chopin, and Mozart. Perhaps the alluring beauty of those nocturnes and sonatas has continued to echo in her soul. Not a day passes that she does not regale us with virtual home concerts, where she delights in demonstrating her talents in playing and singing. Indeed, she has expanded her ‘repertoire’ to include other styles of music and dance. Her desire to perform has increased over time, as has her aplomb in doing it. But her deepest impressions, those that will no doubt inspire Sophie’s continued instrumental and vocal exploration of musical arts, will be the gentle encouragement, insightful teaching and practical guidance provided by her mentors and peers at the Allegro Music School.

I have been a part of Allegro Music School for as long as I can remember, and I have been studying with [harp teacher] Mary-Jane Rupert for even longer. She has been so patient and kind with me over the past eleven years, and I could not have asked for a better teacher and musical mentor. As I prepare to take my leave from the program, I have begun to reflect on my experience with the school, and I can remember nothing but good things. Allegro has taught me not only to appreciate hard-work and talent, but also how to produce music and share it with others. My entire family has been involved with AMS, and it has meant so much to all of us, as it continues to for my younger brother. I feel sad to have come to the point of separation with Allegro, but I intend to take my love and appreciation of music with me as I move on. Thank you for everything!

We have been students with Allegro for five years– not just the three children, but me too. Watching them learn, I felt empowered to learn a bit myself, and not being able to read music had always bothered me. It just seemed like a basic that I had somehow missed. It was exciting to see my kids each gain a knowledge that I did not have and could not teach them, and then suddenly I realized I wanted to learn too, so that we could all speak this common language. The way Allegro teachers approach music makes it accessible. It’s encouraging and forgiving, and it makes you feel you can succeed. Learning anything new is hard work, but it’s so rewarding! I watch my children play a piece, I see the seriousness of the effort, I see the pleasure when the piece is played well. Now I share that– the struggle, the frustration, and the thrill of mastering something that involves both your body and your mind. Love Allegro Music school. All the teachers at this school are highly competent and educated in their instruments. Whether you are looking to start your young child or learn as an adult, they have lessons and classes geared toward every age group. We started by enrolling 2 of my children with Blanca (violin, teaching my 11 y/o then) and Mary Jane (Harp teaching my 10 y/o then) they were amazing, taking their time and always encouraging my daughters. Now my other two children are enrolled as well, my 12 y/o is enrolled with kelly (Piano) and my 5 y/o started violin with Blanca. The Principal Doina is always listening to parents and trying to accommodate them. Highly recommend.
